GROTON -- Adolf Kerkmann, age 88, passed away on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Nashoba Valley Medical Center in Ayer due to natural causes. For sixty three years, he was the beloved husband of Sigrid (Busch) Kerkmann.
Adolf was born in Barmen, Germany on April 13, 1925, a son of the late Ludwig and Olga (Merker) Kerkmann. He served in the German Army prior to moving to the United States in 1950. He was a resident of Groton since 1968.
Prior to his retirement, he was employed as a civil engineer with San-Vel/Lonestar Concrete Corp for thirty years. Adolf enjoyed fishing and hunting and was a member of the Ayer Rod and Gun Club.
Besides his wife, he is survived by two sons and a daughter-in-law, Michael and Lynn Kerkmann and Roger Kerkmann, all of Groton; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Waultraud Kerkmann of Germany and Gisela and Alfred Jeffrey of England; four grandchildren, Cristy, Teresa, Cathy and Ally Kerkmann; also many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rudolf, Gerard, Gunter and Helmut Kerkmann.
At his request, there will be no visitation. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend a Graveside Service on Friday morning, Jan. 10 at 11 o'clock at Pine Grove Cemetery, Forge Village Rd., Westford. A reception will immediately follow at the VFW Post 6539, in Forge Village. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701.
