Arlene C. (Ward) Gibson, age 89, passed away on Saturday, November 17 in Ayer. She was the wife of the late Frank H Gibson who died in 2010.
Arlene was born in Keene, NH on September 23, 1929. She and Frank lived in Keene, NH, Chicago, IL, Niagara Falls, NY, and spent 48 years in Concord, MA before moving to Marlborough, NH in 2003.
Arlene went back to school when her youngest daughter was in grade school to obtain her teaching degree from Fitchburg State College and her MS in Special Education. After a few years of teaching, Arlene worked for human resources at Digital Equipment Corporation before retiring in 1990.
Arlene was active in the West Concord, MA women’s club for many years. After moving to Marlborough she transferred her energies to the Federated Church and community events. She loved reading and told people, “I was born with a book in my hands.” She enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, camping, and travel.
She is survived by her son Bruce Gibson of the Philippines; daughter Wendy Libby-Bernstein and Bill Bernstein of Indianapolis, IN; son Chris Gibson of Alpine, WY; daughter Becky Gibson of Westford, MA; and 5 grandchildren Tammy Doyon, Joshua Gibson, Justin Libby, Amanda Gibson, and Kimberly Gibson as well as 3 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by Becky’s late husband, Gary Bottom.

ARRANGEMENTS - Funeral Services and burial will be held in Marlborough, NH in the Spring. Arrangements are in the care of the Healy Funeral Home of Westford.
