Betty Ann (Schullian) L'Esperance, 79, passed away unexpectedly on Monday, May 31, 2021, in Marlborough, MA.
Betty Ann was born on November 12, 1941, to James Emmett and Margaret Mary
(Schmit) Schullian in Quincy, IL. She graduated from Notre Dame High School in
Quincy and St. John's Hospital School of Nursing in Springfield, IL. She fondly recalled working as a registered nurse in hospital operating and recovery rooms in Springfield; Colorado Springs, CO; and Belleville, IL, and as a camp nurse in the Ozarks of Missouri. She later served as a beloved school nurse at all grade levels for more than 17 years in Westford, MA. She touched many lives as a kind, thoughtful and selfless friend and professional.
Betty married now-retired U.S. Air Force Lt. Col. Donald A. L'Esperance on January
11, 1969, in Shiloh, IL. Due to Don's military assignments, the couple lived in
Belleville, IL; East Hanover, NJ; Westford, MA; Dhahran, Saudi Arabia; and Satellite Beach, FL.
Betty was a devoted mother to her four children: Mark (Wendy) L'Esperance, Fort
Mill, SC; Brett (Emily) L'Esperance, Wayland, MA; Cristin (Dan) Marposon, Springfield, VA; and Faith (Brady) Hermann, Medfield, MA. She was the loving grandmother of 12 grandchildren: Nate, Ella and CeCe L'Esperance, Wayland; Lilly, Aidan and Daisy L'Esperance, Fort Mill; Colton, Abby and Riley Hermann, Medfield; and Luke, Lydia and Silas Marposon, Springfield. Betty cherished the companionship of her pets, Suki, Mitzi, Tee and Louise. She treasured making special holiday, birthday and vacation memories for and with her whole family.
Betty's family, friends and faith in God brought her the greatest joy on this side of
heaven. She served St. Catherine of Alexandria Catholic Church in Westford as a
Eucharistic minister, CCD teacher and lector for many years. Through the chapters of
her life, she enjoyed rooting for her favorite team—the Notre Dame Fighting Irish
football team, birdwatching, photography, entertaining, visiting the beach, and family
and friend reunions in her hometown, Quincy, IL. Betty loved traveling and visited Alaska, Australia, several European countries, Hawaii, Ireland, Thailand, and many U.S. states.
She leaves behind her two sisters, Sister JoAn Schullian, OSF, Decatur, IL,
and Kathleen (Paul) Leo, Palo Alto, CA; her sister-in-law Joan K. Schullian, Herrin, IL; and several nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and younger brother Edward J. Schullian.
Relatives and friends are invited to Betty's Memorial Funeral Mass on Saturday, June 19, 2021, at 9 AM in St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 107 N. Main Street, Westford. Burial will follow in St. Catherine Cemetery.
