Cuma Vernelle Dee

Cuma Vernelle Dee (Britt,) age 82, died on Friday, January 24, 2025, at her home in Westford. She was born in Robeson County, NC on March 25,1942 and was the daughter of the late Jacob Vernon Britt, Sr. and Sarah Eloise Britt (Smith.)

In addition to her parents, Cuma was preceded in death by her beloved husband George R. Dee “Butch;” her brother, Pastor Vernon Britt, Jr. and his his wife, Barbara and her brother-in-laws, Carl Mitchell (Joe) Edwards and Earl Davis, Sr.

Vernelle graduated from Littlefield High School in Lumberton, NC, where she excelled in basketball and ironically obtained her school bus license and drove her fellow classmates to school daily.

Vernelle and Butch were married on July 24, 1960, in Lumberton, NC. They enjoyed a beautiful life together raising their five children in Westford, Massachusetts. Vernelle was a dedicated homemaker and mother to her five children. She also enjoyed helping her husband and children run the family School Bus Business (Dee Bus Service, Inc., Shirley, MA.)

Over the years Vernelle and Butch enjoyed many annual family bus trips during the summer to destinations across the United States. She also enjoyed RV travel with Butch and their two dogs Snowball and Queenie, especially to North Carolina and Florida and the many cruises and Foxwoods excursions she and her family took over the years.

Vernelle had a passion for gardening, her beautiful flower beds and vegetable gardens were admired by all who visited. Everything she touched bloomed! Vernelle thrived being surrounded by her family, hosting many family gatherings, birthdays and holidays. She enjoyed endless summer days on her porch watching her grandchildren and great grandchildren swim in the family pool.

Vernelle leaves behind her children, George R. Dee, Jr. (Rick) and his wife, Kelly of Westford, Renee Dee-Canney and her husband, David of Ayer, Sandra Martin and her husband, Bill of Westford, Linda MacDonald and her husband, Kevin of Groton and Robert "Bo" Dee and his wife, Jennifer of Townsend; her beloved grandchildren, Erica, Amanda, Nicole, Alison, Michael, Mary, Jake, Kyle, Sarah, Jackson, Braden and Nolan; her nine adoring great-grandchildren, Jordan, Mackenzie, Madelyn, Patrick, Jocelyn, Hailey, Henry, Via and Roman; her siblings, Volene Britt Davis, Mable Britt Edwards and Marie Britt (Kenneth) of North Carolina.

All services were held privately. Burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford.
