WESTFORD - Derek M. "Zeek" Halvorsen, age 48, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 29, 2015 at his home in Westford. He was the beloved husband of Margaret T. "Peggy" (Vennard) Halvorsen.He was born in Lowell on July 15, 1967, beloved son of Dolores (Granger) Halvorsen of Westford and the late Harry Halvorsen. Zeek served in the U.S. Army, worked with the Patriot Missile System and was stationed in Germany for three years. He was a member of the American Legion Post 437 in Westford where he served as the Senior Vice Commander.Zeek was currently employed at Market Basket in the produce department in Westford and was the former ski race coach instructor for Nashoba Valley Ski Area for many years. He enjoyed the outdoors and landscaping his yard, was an avid skier and was loved by his family and friends.Besides his wife Peggy and his mother Dolores, he is survived by his two children whom he loved very much, Andrea and Dana Halvorsen of Allenstown, NH; his siblings, Albert French of Indiana, Lois French of Westford, Charles French of N. Conway, NH and Thomas French and his wife Lynn of Acton; also many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews and many dear friends.ARRANGEMENTS - A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, Jan. 9 at 1 PM at theAmerican Legion Post 437,114Dunstable Rd., Westford, MA 01886. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wounded Warrior Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675. Arrangements are in the care of the J.A. HEALY SONS FUNERAL HOME, 57 N. Main St., WESTFORD.
