Mrs. Florence (Statchen) Dorsey, age 93, of Westford, passed away peacefully on June 19 at her home. She was the wife of the late John W. Dorsey, who passed away in 1978. She was born in New Britain, Connecticut on December 13, 1919, daughter of the late John & Catherine (Mader) Statchen. She received her early education in Connecticut, and graduated from Teachers College of Connecticut (now the University of Central Conn.). She has resided in Melrose, Ipswich and Westford. She was past-President of Melrose Garden Club, past-President of the Melrose Arts & Crafts Society, past-President of the Ipswich Catholic Women's Club, and past-President of the Westford Golden Agers Club. She was also a member of the Line Dancers of Ipswich, Newburyport and Chelmsford and Country Line Dancers of Westford. She was a member of the Line Dance Teachers Association. Loving mother to Mary-Ellen Reardon of Westford, Jacqueline Shaw and her husband Lyle of Westford and John Dougherty of Mt. Arlington NJ; Devoted grandmother of Susan D. Johnson and her husband Kyle, Cathy Greenland and her husband Dave, Thomas Dougherty and his wife Lisa Cascelli, Joanna Dougherty, Katherine Hutchens and her wife Heather, Tim Reardon and his fiancé Jamie Kelly, and Justin Shaw and his husband Jonathon Donnelly; Great grandmother of Christopher Cascelli, Brady Dougherty, Teagan Dougherty, Emily Greenland, Drew Greenland, Marshall Johnson, Darcy Johnson, Jackson Hutchens and Sean Hutchens. She also leaves a brother, Richard Statchen of CT and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her daughters Marcia A. Dougherty and Susan C. Dorsey, son-in-law David Reardon, brothers Henry, John, Carl and Robert Statchen, and sisters Ruth Statchen, Isabelle Kurth, Irene Johnson, and Gloria Carlson. Florence's family would like to thank Beacon Hospice of Methuen and Visiting Angels of Littleton for their assistance in Florence's care. At her request, there will be no calling hours. Cremation took place June 21. Relatives & Friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass which will be celebrated on Friday, June 28, 2013 at 10 o'clock a.m. at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 107 North Main St. in Westford, with a reception to follow.
