Frank P. Karkota Sr., 92, a resident of Westford for 65 years, died June 24th at Westford House. He was the beloved husband of Doris (Gearin) Karkota with whom he was married for 66 years. He was born October 15, 1918 in Lowell, a son of the late Adam and Eva (Palubinskas) Karkota. He grew up in Lowell, MA and attended Lowell schools. Mr. Karkota joined the U.S. Army on December 23, 1943. He received the Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, European African Middle Eastern Theatre Campaign Ribbon, American Theatre Campaign Ribbon, and the Army Occupation Medal of Germany and was honorably discharged on May 11, 1946 after his service. Prior to his retirement in 1982, Mr. Karkota was employed for 26 years at Mitre Corporation in Bedford, MA. In his early years in Westford he loved to farm on his land and also enjoyed gardening, fishing and classical music. Mr. Karkota enjoyed tinkering and could fix almost anything. He was also an avid news buff who kept up with all current events. Besideds his wife Doris, he is survived by two sons; Frank Karkota, Jr. and Dennis Karkota both of Westford. Two grandchildren, Jason Karkota of Florida and Christina McDaniel of Alabama; also by six great -grandchildren and two neices and their families in Portsmouth, NH. He was the brother of the late Alexander Karkota.Friends may call at the Healy Funeral Home on Tuesday, June 28th from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. Franks funeral mass will be celebrated at St. Catherine's Church, 107 North Main Street, Westford on Wednesday, June 29th at 9:00 a.m.
