GROTON - Garfield Richard Morgan, age 95, passed away on Sunday, March 6, 2016 at Rivercourt Residences in Groton, MA. Prior to moving to Groton, he was a lifelong resident of Lynn. He was the beloved husband of Virginia (Lane) Morgan with whom he would have celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary in April.Garfield was born in Lynn on January 26, 1921, the elder son of the late Rev. Garfield and Lola (Richards) Morgan. He graduated from Lynn English High School in 1937 and Oberlin College in 1941. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1942 and achieved the rank of First Lieutenant as a meteorologist during WWII. He was awarded the Bronze Star for his service in the Asiatic-Pacific Theater. Upon returning to civilian life, he received a law degree from Boston University.Prior to his retirement, Garfield practiced law in the Lynn area for over sixty years. Among other community service, he served as the president of Union Hospital. His many interests included building radio controlled model airplanes, golf and fishing. In the early 1950's he was a hi-fi enthusiast and would build his own equipment from kits. He enjoyed listening to classical music, especially the Beethoven symphonies and piano concertos.Besides his wife Virginia, he is survived by his two children, Walter Lane Morgan and his wife, Nancy, of Penn Yan, NY and Thomas James Morgan and his wife, Jan, of Pepperell, MA; also four grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. He was the brother of the late Dr. Walter S. Morgan of New Haven CT.ARRANGEMENTS - At his request, services will be held privately. Arrangements are in the care of the J. A.
