George M. Bennett, 85, of the Forge Village section of Westford, passed away peacefully with his loving family by his side, after a brief illness on Monday, August 14, 2011. Mr. Bennett leaves his beloved wife of 61 years, Beverly A. Bennett. He also leaves his five children, four daughters, Marilyn Cronin and her companion, Marty Sienkiewicz of Ashby, Beverly Perry and her husband James Perry of West Townsend, Anne Connell and her husband, James Connell of Westford, Lisa Bennett and her companion Brad Davidson of Dracut, and one son, Michael Bennett and his wife Carol Bennett of Littleton. Mr. Bennett also leaves 9 grandchildren, 5 grandsons Timothy Hall and his wife Betsy of Westford, David Hall and his wife Marybeth of Billerica, Brian Connell of Westford, Scott Connell of Westford, Thomas Bennett of Littleton, 4 granddaughters, Tricia Hall Targ and her husband Joseph Targ of Westford, Allison Steadman and her husband Shawn Steadman of Florence, SC, Kim Caldwell of Belmar, NJ and Ashley Bennett of Littleton. His great-grandchildren, Timothy Hall Jr., Kameryn Hall, Leah Hall, Natalie, Connor and Rachael Targ, Mary and Sarah Caldwell. Mr. Bennett was the son of late Elmer and Jennie Bennett of Wakefield and he was one of 13 children. He was pre-deceased by his brother's Nelson, Thomas and Donald Bennett and his sister's Edith Garrett, Irene Surette, Mary (May) Melonson, Helen Doucette, Christina Maybury and Bernice Collins. He is survived by his brother's Richard Bennett and his wife Ann Bennett of Westford, Robert Bennett of Wakefield and his sister Margaret MacQuarrie of Stoneham and several nephews and nieces. Mr. Bennett, following in the footsteps of his older brother's, enlisting in the U.S. Navy Armed Guard at age 17 on July 16, 1943. He served in the Mediterranean and Pacific theatres, Africa, Italy and Guam. All 6 boys served in the U. S. Navy, U. S. Army, and U. S. Air Force during World War II and the Korean War.Calling hours for George M. Bennett will be held at the Healy Funeral Home on Wednesday, August 15 from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and a brief viewing at the Funeral Home on Thursday, August 16 at 11:00 a. m., burial to follow at Pine Grove Cemetery, Forge Village Road, Westford, MA.
