Helena M. "Mickey" (McKniff) Crocker a lifelong resident of the Forge Village section of Westford passed away peacefully at he home on Monday, June 26, 2023 surrounded by her loving family. She was 94.
Mickey was born in Forge Village on October 20, 1928 a daughter of the late Thomas and Sarah (Lavelle) McKniff who emigrated to the United States from England.
Growing up she never felt the need to leave the village. It was an ideal community. She attended the Cameron School and graduated Westford Academy with the class of 1946. At age 16 she worked as a "Bobbin Girl" in the Abbot Worsted woolen mill.
She and her late husband Leonard met at a dance at the Chelmsford Town Hall. Together Mickey and Lenny were married for 48 years at the time of his passing and had raised 8 children.
Mickey's involvement in the community stretched far and wide. Whenever there was a need she was there. She worked at Neighborhood Youth Corps., Community Teamwork, Inc., and started many programs. She worked for the Town of Westford as the Veteran's Agent. In 1986 she was hired to work as a Town Aid, from there she founded Merrimack Valley Homecare, and Started the Golden Age Club, where they would travel together. Later through all of her hard work the Council on Aging was born. She also was a founder of the Westford Housing Authority, the Westford Food Pantry, The Cameron Senior Center and the Thrift Shop at the Cameron Senior Center. In her retirement she enjoyed coffee with her friends, and the Quilter's Club. Mickey was a lifelong communicant of Blessed Trinity Parish - St. Catherine of Alexandria Church.
Mickey is survived by her children, Robert Crocker and his partner Kathy, Richard Crocker and his wife Denise, Bernard Crocker, David Crocker, Michael Crocker and his wife Michelle, Marea Joncas and her husband James; her twelve grandchildren, Bryan Crocker, Jennifer Crocker, Sean Crocker and his wife Laurie, Thomas Crocker and his wife Sheilah, Sarah Ritcher and her husband Dan, James Crocker and his wife Melissa, William Crocker and his wife Danielle, Alexa O'Neill, Jacklyn Joncas, Keith Crocker, Luke Crocker, Hannah Crocker; her twelve great grandchildren, Michael, Logan, Domenic, Liam, Peyton, Callan, Kennedy, Jaxson, Charleigh, Bentley, Casey and Francesca; and several nieces and nephews. She was the mother of the late Thomas and Keith Crocker.
Relatives and friends are invited to Mickey's Celebration of Life at the Westford Healy Funeral Home, 57 North Main Street, from 4 until 8 PM on Friday. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 10:00 AM in Blessed Trinity Parish at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church. Burial in St. Catherine Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Mickey's memory may be made to Westford Remembers, PO Box 869 Westford, MA 01886.
