John J. Fanning, Sr., a Westford resident and beloved husband of Margaret R. (Casey) Fanning passed away on Thursday, April 2, 2020 at the Lowell General Hospital. He was 93.
Born in Everett on August 14, 1926, a son of the late John and Minnie (Fredrickson) Fanning. When John was a young boy he lost his mother and lived with his aunt Betty Delaney and cousin Ruth Delaney.
John was a veteran of WWII having served in the US Navy in the South Pacific.
John and Margaret moved to Westford in 1966 to raise their family. In earlier years he worked as a steam engineer and later retiring as an electrician for the former Filene's Department store.
John was a member of the National Lancers, based in Littleton where he took part in the inaugural parade of John F. Kennedy. He was also a life member of the National Rifle Association, but most of all looked forward to motorcycle riding with his sons.
Surviving John besides his wife Margaret with whom he has been married to for 71 years is a son, Mark Fanning of New Boston, NH. He was also the father of the late John J. Fanning II.
His funeral services were private and a memorial Mass will be planned for a later date.
