Joseph E. Champey Jr., age 79, of Westford, formerly of Cottonwood, AZ, passed away on Wednesday, March 13, 2013 at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford. He was the husband of the late Carol (Hanson) Champey who passed away in 1998. Joseph was born in Manchester, NH on January 28, 1934, son of the late Joseph and Lillian (Lefebvre) Champey. He honorably served his country in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War. He worked in construction and carpentry for many years and co-owned Caljo's Ceramix with his wife Carol. Joseph was a member of the American Legion Post 25 and the VFW of Cottonwood, AZ.. as well as the American Legion Post 159 and the Franco American Club of Westford, MA. He held various offices at both Legion posts over the years. He enjoyed spending time with his grand children and great grand children, and enjoyed the company of his many friends both in Massachusetts and Cottonwood Arizona. Joseph is survived by his daughters, Cheryl Steinhaus and her husband Orrin of Nashua, NH, Rhonda Doyle of Manchester, NH, Diane Nye and her husband Marshall of Sandwich, NH and MaryAnn Henry and her husband Stephen of Olmstead, KY; a brother, James Champey and his wife Joanne of Haverhill; two sisters, Nancy Hill and Virginia Champey; also 13 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild, several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his grandson Stephen Henry. Relatives and friends may call at the J. A. Healy Sons Funeral Home on Sunday, March 17, from 3 until 7pm. His Funeral Service will be held at the Funeral Home on Monday morning at 10 o'clock followed by interment with Military Honors at St. Catherine Cemetery, Westford.
