Matilda (Harris) Kane, age 87, a long time resident of Groton, passed away on Tuesday, April 3, 2012 at her home after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family. She was the wife of the late Lawrence Kane. Affectionately known as Tillie, she was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on September 7, 1924, daughter of the late Thomas and Ellen (MacMurray) Harris. Tillie emigrated from Northern Ireland 63 years ago and made her home in Groton where she raised her nine children. She was employed by Murray Printing in Westford and attended St. Mark's Episcopal Church in Westford. She enjoyed spending time with her family, taking vacations to York Beach, Maine, crossword puzzles, PBS mysteries, reading and traveling. Tillie is survived by her children and their spouses, Linda Kane and her husband Michael Rosser of Pepperell, Thomas and Diane Kane of Phillipston, Susan Kane and her partner Jeffrey Bergeron of Hopkinton, NH, Larry and Sandy Kane of Westford, Timothy and Bethany Kane of Pepperell, Kathleen Kane-Gamester and her husband Wayne Gamester of Groton, John Kane of Ayer and Lisa Sweet and her fiance Robert Whitehead of Nashua, NH; a sister, Sarah Officer of Dunstable and her three children, Jim, Lawrence and Michael Officer; also eighteen grandchildren, five great grandchildren and countless nieces and nephews around the word. She was also the mother of the late Peter Kane.Relatives and friends may call at the J. A. Healy Sons Funeral Home on Friday, April 6 from 4 until 7pm. Her Funeral Service will take place on Saturday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Mark's Episcopal Church, Westford.
