Richard Henry McAuliffe, 80, formerly of Westford, MA, and Fort Pierce, FL, passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, July 13th, 2015. He was the husband of the late Ruth Jeannine (Westcott) McAuliffe and father of the late Kathleen Hintlian, who both passed away in 2009.
He leaves behind his son, Richard, and his wife Lauri of Southern Shores, NC; his daughter, Kelly Boshar, and her husband Vinny of Chelmsford; his son, Daniel, and his wife Gretchen of Dedham, and his son-in-law, Kenneth Hintlian of Lexington. He was predeceased by his sister, Patricia Finn, and his brother, Thomas McAuliffe. He also leaves behind 11 grandchildren, who will greatly miss "The Gramps", and many nieces and nephews.
He was born to the late Michael Henry McAuliffe and his wife, Marion (Hankard) McAuliffe, in Cambridge, MA, on May 5th, 1935. At the age of 17 he began a 45 year career in the footwear business by taking a job in retail sales at the Regal Shoe Store in Worcester, MA. He then moved to Syracuse, NY, to become the manager at a Regal Shoe store there, and it was while in Syracuse that he met and married his wife of 52 years, Ruth. He became involved in local politics after he settled his new family in Camillus, NY, serving as a town councilman for two terms. After moving to Westford and working over 20 years for Converse, Inc. and Meridian Footwear, he and several other business partners began their own successful footwear company, New World Inc.
A resident of Westford for over 30 years, he was a communicant and Eucharistic minister at St. Catherine's Church. After many years of traveling the world building his business, he retired and moved to Florida to enjoy his wife, family, and the many Ocean Village friends he loved to spend time with. While at Ocean Village, he served on the Property Owners Association Board of Directors and Beachtree II Cluster Board, was active in the bocce leagues, and helped to organize the annual Special Olympic Games at Ocean Village.
Relatives and friends may call at the J. A. HEALY SONS FUNERAL HOME, 57 N. Main St., WESTFORD, on Thursday, July 16, from 4 until 7pm. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Friday morning at 10 o'clock at St. Catherine of Alexandria Church, 107 N. Main St., Westford. Interment to follow at St. Catherine Cemetery.
