TYNGSBOROUGH - Robert E. Nelson, age 92, a long-time resident of Tyngsborough, died Friday, January 29, 2021 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Kuhn) Nelson, to whom he was married for 65 years.
He was born in Rockford, Illinois on March 25, 1928, and was a son of the late Robert and Mary Elsie (Reid) Nelson. After graduating high school, he proudly went on to serve his country in the United States Air Force during World War II. Upon return, he went on to earn his degree with a Master's of Science.
Prior to his retirement, Robert was employed as an electrical engineer for various companies.
Robert was a faith-filled gentleman and an intelligent man, who spoke only when it was necessary and with measured words. He was kind, always wanting to serve others, even at his advanced age. He was a 'Dad' to everybody and was always thinking of others first. He was funny with a dry sense of humor. We will miss his jokes and his laughter and all who he was.
He loved tinkering on cars, listening to opera and was avid sports fan, especially baseball.
In addition to his wife Mary, Robert is survived by his daughter, Winifred Nelson of Tyngsborough; his son, Peter Nelson and his wife Cindy of Buffalo, NY; his four grandchildren, Xela, Troy, Althea and Bela; his sister, Phyllis Gordon of Cupertino, California; his sister-in-law, Agnes Kuhn of Wilmington, Delaware; as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by his daughter, Beryl E. Nelson, who passed away in 2015.
