Born on December 17, 1931 in Waterbury, CT to Dorothy Pearl and Earl Hunter Overbaugh, “Bob” will be forever remembered as patient, kind, and having an insatiable desire to learn. Always acting with quiet consideration, he was an artist; active church member; classical music lover; and avid reader of history, science, and poetry.
Earning both his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics from the University of Connecticut and Trinity College, respectively, he enjoyed a long career in the computer industry. Beginning with calculations for one of the Apollo space missions and culminating with diagnostic software engineering, Bob never tired in his awe of the wonders of technology. Achieving the rank of First Lieutenant in the U.S. Army, one of the most formative times in his life was while stationed in Germany, where he took every opportunity available to travel and explore.
An excellent conversationalist and even more gifted listener, Bob also had an unexpected clever wit that often caught people off guard. A lover of nature and fitness, he especially enjoyed trips to Yosemite National Park with his wife while visiting their son and family.
Bob passed peacefully on January 24, 2024, joining his loving wife of 57 years, Nancy Carol Stocking Overbaugh. Bob was a devoted family man and is survived by his son, James, daughter-in-law, Christina, and grandson, Nicholas Overbaugh; his daughter, Robin, son-in-law, Christopher, and granddaughter, Naomi Weinbeck; his sister, Dorothy Vander Meulen; and many nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends will gather to remember and honor Bob at the Westford Healy Funeral Home on Thursday, April 4, 2024 from 4 until 8 PM. His Celebration of Life will be held on Friday April 5, 2024 at 11 AM in the United Methodist Church of Westford, 10 Church St, Westford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Michael J.
