Roy Hudson, 88, of Westford passed away on January 19th, 2013 at the Merrimack Valley Hospice House in Haverhill, MA. Roy was born in Rexton, New Brunswick, Canada on April 9th, 1924 to the late Andrew and Delphine Hudson. He attended Rexton schools along with his twin brother Edwin. Roy and his brother Edwin joined the army on March 26th, 1943 in Moncton, N.B. They boarded a ship in Halifax Harbor as soldiers of the Carelton York Regiment. Ten days later they arrived in England and spent the winter. In April they were transferred to Italy. On May 19th, 1944 Edwin was wounded with multiple leg fractures. Two days later Roy was wounded in the arm and sent back to England where he met his future wife. Roy and Betty Stringfellow were married in September 1945 in Manchester England. In 1962 the Hudson family moved to Westford, Ma. Roy retired from the Mitre Corp. in 1986 after more than twenty years of service. Roy is predeceased by his beloved wife Betty of sixty-five years and their son David. Also predeceased by his half-siblings John, Willie, Albert, Harry, Andy, Arthur, Winnifred, Mable, Mary,and Edna Hudson; Charles, Eric, Ted, Lewis O'Brien and sister Marion (O'Brien) Gerald. Survived by twin brother Edwin Hudson of Rexton N.B., Niece Kitty Gee and husband John of Chesterville Maine, son Mell Hudson of Gardner, Ma, Daughters Janice Acquard and husband Russ of Ocala, Fl, Susan Squires and husband James of Port Richey, Fl, Debbie Hudson, widow of David Hudson, of Littleton, Ma, Grandchildren William Spruce of Alexandria, Va, Valarie ( Spruce ) Lacefield and her husband Jerry of Ocala, Fl, Jason Squires of Port Richey, Fl, Laura ( Squires) Woo-Sam and her husband Nick of Bradford, Nh, Emily Squires of Port Richey, Fl, and Jared Hudson of Garner, Ma, Great grandchildren, Andrew, Nathan, Hannah, Kelli, Neali, Joeli, Allison, and Ana. Friends are invited to call from 3 to 7 p.m. on Friday, January 25th at the J.A. Healy Sons Funeral Home. A funeral service will take place on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial is to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford.Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Lowell Humane Society at www.lowellhumanesociety.org or to the Salvation Army at www.salvationarmyusa.org.
