Ruth M. Marchand

Ruth M. (Morris) Marchand, 79, a long time Westford resident and retired Town employee died unexpectedly on Sunday May 1st, peacefully at her home. She was born on June 21, 1931 in Billerica, Ma, a daughter of the late William Morris and Florence (Buckley) Morris. She shared 56 years of marriage with the late Gerard A. Marchand. They enjoyed spending time with the family, wintering in Florida and summering at the camp in Maine. Mrs. Marchand was a long time employee of the Town of Westford prior to her retirement. She served as the secretary to the Building Inspector's office as well as the clerk to the Town Aide/Veteran's Agent's Office. Mrs. Marchand was a communicant of St. Catherine's of Alexandria Church in Westford. She was an active member of the Cameron Senior Center in Westford and enjoyed many Senior Trip events. One of her favorite activities was her Mah Jongg clubs and sharing her knowledge of the game with her friends. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Mrs. Marchand is survived by her four children; David E. Marchand of Westford, Donna L. Szopa and her husband Daniel of Eliot, ME, Dennis G. Marchand of Westford, and Darlene M. Conrad of Westford; six grandchildren, Greg Marchand, Brent Marchand, Jeffrey Szopa, Jenna Szopa, Jacob Conrad, and Ashley Conrad. Two sisters; Fee Morris of Apopka, FL and Virginia Butcher of Sandown, NH; and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was the wife of the late Gerard A. Marchand; the sister of the late Lillian Gurich, Dorothy Potvin, C. Robert Morris Steven Morris, Richard Morris and Howard Morris.Relatives and friends may call at the Healy Funeral Home on Thursday, May 5th from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Her funeral mass will be celebrated at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, May 6 at St. Catherine's Church, Westford.
