Sally Potter Benedict, passed peacefully in her sleep on February 2, 2024 after a long and full life, just shy of her 91st birthday. She was dearly loved and will be missed by her many friends and family.
Sally was born on March 15, 1933 in Boston, Massachusetts, daughter of Fred and Anne Potter and grew up in Marblehead. She attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston. For many years, she was a realtor in Westford at DeWolfe Real Estate (Coldwell Banker.) She shared her love of Westford with many clients.
She was married for 50 years to the late Laurence P. Benedict, who passed away in 2007. For much of their lives, they lived happily in Westford and spent their summers at Bass River on Cape Cod. She was involved in Florence Crittenton League, Westford Garden Club, Westford Historical Society and volunteered at Emerson Hospital. Not many people know, but Sally was quite a good skier and taught many young people to ski at Nashoba Valley. She likely came across as serious to students and others, but she possessed a great sense of humor and loved to laugh. She was always impeccably dressed, usually in her signature ribbed turtleneck and loved to entertain whether on the front porch in Bass River or the patio in Westford. Sally was genuinely interested in all people with whom she came in contact and was a generous writer of thoughtful personal notes.
She is survived by her two daughters, Greta Wong and her husband Gary and Liza Benedict; her two grandchildren, Madeleine and Alexander and her sister, Mary Pullen of Old Lyme, CT.
She was predeceased by her beloved brother, Fredrick Potter.
Per her wishes, there will be no services. Please celebrate her memory in your own way.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Sally’s memory to the Westford Garden Club, https://westford.org/gardenclub/.
