Tina Poist

Tina (Zahar) Poist, 89, passed away on Saturday, April 29, 2023 at Tufts Medical Center. She was the beloved wife of 56 years to the late William G. Poist, until his passing in 2013.

She was born in Somerville, MA on September 4, 1933 and was the daughter of the late Dorothy and Thomas Zahar. Even though born in the United States, Tina always took great pride and interest in her Albanian heritage. She worked tirelessly helping to reestablish churches after the fall of communism. She was also heavily involved and supported the Junior Achievement in Albania.

In her younger years, she modeled for Filene’s in Boston and later worked for John Hancock. She was an incredible seamstress and made a lot of her own clothes. She was also a talented quilter.

Tina adored spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Tina was an active TOPS group member, who enjoyed exercising daily and eating lunch with her friends at the Chelmsford Senior Center.

Tina is survived and will deeply missed by her five children, Diane and Al Crowley of Westford, Joseph Poist and his wife Susan of Plaistow, NH, Annette Doucette of Concord, Denise Battick and her husband Peter of Holliston and Karl Poist of Nashua, NH; her nine grandchildren, Kenneth, Shannon, Laura, Michael, Shawn, Sarah, Hannah, Brandon and Justin; her nine great-grandchildren, Ciara, Abby, Alivia, Aiden, Reese, Levi, Hailey, Madelyn and Kenny; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was the sister to the late, Joseph Zahar.

Relatives and friends are invited to Tina’s Celebration of Life on Thursday, May 4, 2023 from 3 until 6 PM at the WESTFORD HEALY FUNERAL HOME, 57 N Main Street, Westford. Her funeral service will take place in the funeral home on Friday at 10 AM. Burial to follow in Pine Grove Cemetery, Westford. Donations may be made in Tina’s memory to St. George Albanian Orthodox Cathedral, 523 East Broadway, South Boston, MA 02127.
