CHELMSFORD -Vernon H.Ure, age 84, of Chelmsford and formerly of Delmar, NY, passed away on August 9, 2016, with his family at his side. Much beloved husband for 63 years of Aino Kivela Ure. Devoted father of Donna Ure Dugas and her husband, Steven of Westford. Proud grandfather of Jeffrey Vernon Dugas of Washington, DC and Kristen Marie Dugas of Westford. Dear brother of Lynn F. Ure and his wife Pegge of Layton, Utah and Linda Ure Dorman of Oak Island, NC. Predeceased by his sister, Janice Ure Natali of Clayton NY, his brother-in-law, Warren Dorman of Oak Island, NC and his niece, Kimberly Dorman Daniel. Loving son of the late Harold and Alice Ure of Carthage, NY and son-in-law of the late Matti and Hilja(Liimatainen) Kivela of Springfield, VT and Finland. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins and by many caring members of his wife's family in Finland.He was raised with no electricity or running water on the farm in Carthage, NY, and educated in a one room schoolhouse before graduating from West Carthage High School. He graduated from ATI Canton (NY) and Lowell Technological Institute on the GI bill. His professional career as a chemical and quality control engineer was spent with Imperial Paint and Paper, General Electric, Bendix, Instrumentation Laboratories and USCI/Bard. His true talents included making an amazing life for his family, making friends everywhere he went, and being a mentor, advisor and confidante to countless family members and friends. He was a voracious reader, woodworker, clock tinkerer, and jack-of-all-trades, with an endless sweet tooth and a joyful sense of humor. He was a member of The Knights of Kaleva and was a Korean War veteran, serving with US Army Medical Corps in Korea.

ARRANGEMENTS - Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend his Memorial Visitation at the J. A. HEALY SONS FUNERAL HOME, 57 N. Main St., WESTFORD, on Saturday, August 13 from 12 noon until 3pm. A prayer service will conclude the visitation at 3 o'clock at the Funeral Home.
