WESTFORD -- William F. "Bill" Richards, age 49, a lifelong resident of Westford, passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, Dec. 9, 2014 at Emerson Hospital in Concord. For twenty years, he was the beloved husband of Deborah A. "Debbie" (Fazio) Richards.
He was born in Lowell on August 29, 1965, a beloved son of Jean (Williams) Richards of Westford and the late Samuel Richards, Jr. He attended Westford Schools, graduated from Westford Academy, class of 1983 and went on to further his education at the University of Lowell.
Bill was the owner of Mickey's Sports Shop on Concord Road in Westford for the past twenty five years. He was a avid sports enthusiast who enjoyed the Patriots and Bruins. He was a member of the 1983 WA Hockey State Championship Team and after college, he coached the JV hockey team at Westford Academy. For many years, he gave much of his time organizing annual golf tournaments to raise money for the sports programs for Westford Academy and more recently for Nashoba Valley Technical High School. He also coached the New England Stars U18 Hockey League and was the organizer of the Wolfpac AAU Baseball Team.
Besides his wife Debbie and his mother Jean, he is survived by his son, Samuel A. "Alex" Richards of Westford, a senior at Westford Academy; two brothers, Scott Richards of Westford and Rob Richards and his wife, Corinne of Milford, MA; his father and mother-in-law, Tony and Barbara Fazio of East Longmeadow; a brother-in-law, Roger Plaisted of Westford; also several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Mary Jane Plaisted who passed away in 2002 and brother-in-law the late Brian Fazio who passed away in 2003.
RICHARDS -- Relatives and friends may call at the J. A. HEALY SONS FUNERAL HOME, 57 N. Main St., WESTFORD, on Sunday, Dec. 14 from 11am until 3pm. A Celebration of Bill's Life will immediately follow at the Franco American Club, 55 W. Prescott St., Westford.
